# How can I see if a client opened my demo?

- Updated: 2026-10-20

You can only see whether a client opened your demo if the link is theirs alone and the page records visits. A shared preview link or a public address tells you traffic at best. Send each client their own link to a room that records who opened it, when, and what they did next.

This guide covers what the usual places a demo lives can tell you, and why an email read receipt doesn’t help. Then how to see each person’s visit in a Roomi room. After that, what an open does and doesn’t mean, how to be told when it happens, and what to do when it doesn’t. [Analytics and the pipeline](https://getroomi.com/docs/analytics) explains every measure.

## Why can’t I tell from the link I sent?

Because most links are built to count traffic, not people. AI builders and hosts report visits, page views and sources across everyone who came. Some include bots. None of them knows which visit was your client’s, because the link you sent them is the same link everyone else has.

| Where the demo lives | What you can see |
|---|---|
| Lovable published app | Visits, not people |
| Bolt published site | Totals, crawlers and bots included |
| ChatGPT Site | Unique visitors and page views, as totals |
| Vercel, with Web Analytics | Visitors told apart by a hash that resets daily |
| Claude artifact | No record of who opened it |
| Roomi private link (ours) | The named person: each visit, and their time on each app and page |

What each vendor says, as we read it:

- Lovable’s analytics measures overall traffic, not individual people, and does not follow a visitor from one visit to the next.
- On a paid plan, Bolt’s hosting analytics show unique visitors, page views, top pages and traffic sources for a published site. They include visits from crawlers and bots.
- A ChatGPT Site’s analytics show its total unique visitors and page views, and both over time; OpenAI’s page describes no record of who each visitor was.
- Vercel’s Web Analytics tells visitors apart by a hash that resets every day, without cookies. It reports pages, referrers, countries, operating systems and browsers across all visitors.
- When you invite someone to a Claude artifact, Claude doesn’t tell you whether they have an account. Its help page on sharing describes no record of who opened one.

A total can tell you the demo was seen. It cannot tell you whether the person you sent it to was the one who saw it.

## Does an email read receipt help?

Not much. A read receipt depends on the recipient’s email account and on their say-so, so a missing one tells you nothing. Even when one arrives, it says the email was opened, not that anyone clicked through to the demo, or what they did once they got there.

Gmail read receipts work only on work and school accounts, not personal Gmail ones, and the recipient may have to approve each one. Google says a receipt does not always mean the message was read.

The same goes for tracking pixels in an email: they report the email, not the demo. To know about the demo, the record has to come from where the demo is opened. [How to know if a client looked at your proposal](https://getroomi.com/guides/how-to-know-if-a-client-looked-at-your-proposal) covers read receipts and document trackers in more detail.

## How do I see who opened it, person by person?

Give each client their own private link, then read the project’s Activity. Each link carries the name of the person you made it for, so every visit is filed under them. You see when they came, how long they stayed, which apps and pages they used, and how far through the tour they got.

1. **Make a link for each person.** In the app, the terminal or from Claude. [How to give each client their own demo link](https://getroomi.com/guides/how-to-give-each-client-their-own-demo-link) has the steps.
2. **Open the pipeline.** Each link is a card. **Sent** means it has not been opened; **Opened** means one visit; **Engaged** means two visits or more, or two minutes or more inside. An answer that isn’t a decision, such as a question or a colleague to bring in, counts too.
3. **Open their journey.** A card’s **See their visits** shows each visit in order: what they opened, read and said, and where they left.

Private links, the pipeline and journeys come with Pro and up, as [pricing](https://getroomi.com/pricing) shows. On Free, a demo listed publicly shows total views only, because nobody at a public address is named.

## What does “opened” tell you, and what doesn’t it?

Opened means they got as far as the room. It does not mean they were interested. Someone can open a link for a few seconds between meetings and never come back. What tells you more is how long they stayed, which apps and pages they spent it on, and whether they returned.

Read the evidence on each card, not the stage alone:

- **Time inside.** A few seconds is a glance. Minutes on one app or page is attention.
- **Where the time went.** The apps and pages they used, and how far through the tour they got.
- **Coming back.** A second visit an hour or more after the first is them thinking about it.
- **Passing it on.** Someone new on their link means the demo reached another person with a say.

Roomi records no IP address, location or browser details. It counts no clicks or screens inside your demo, and reads which screen they are on only to pin a comment there. [Buying signals](https://getroomi.com/guides/buying-signals-a-prospect-is-ready-to-talk) ranks what is worth acting on.

## Can I be told the moment they open it?

Yes. Roomi tells you the first time each person opens their link, in the app and by email. It tells you again when someone comes back, an hour or more after their last visit, at most once a day for each person. You choose which of these you hear about, and where.

Both are on by default, in the app and by email, and you can switch either off in your settings. The app works on your phone too, so you can check the pipeline between meetings.

## What if they never open it?

Then the card stays in **Sent**, and that is worth knowing too. Send a short nudge with the link again, from your own email, rather than a second copy of the first message. If it still goes unopened, offer a few minutes on a call to walk them through it.

**Copy link**, on their card, copies the same address for you to send again. The [follow-up email templates](https://getroomi.com/guides/follow-up-email-after-sending-a-demo) include a nudge for a link that hasn’t been opened.

Send your next demo as a link of its own for each client, and you will know who opened it.

## Questions people ask

### Can I see if someone opened my link without them knowing?

Not in secret, and it is worth not trying. The room asks each browser whether it is the person the link was made for, so they know it is theirs. Roomi’s terms ask you to tell each viewer that the room records what they do.

### Does a view count tell me who opened it?

No. A count says how many visits there were, not whose. Only a link made for one person can tell you that this person opened it, and what they did once they were in.

### What if someone else opens their link?

The room asks every new browser whether it is the person the link was made for. Someone who says no gives their own name, and appears under that link as forwarded, so you see who it reached.
