Your own domain
A room at an address of yours, such as pitch.yourcompany.com.
On this page
A project's room can answer at an address of yours, such as
pitch.northwind.com, as well as at its own address on
getroomi.app. This page covers adding one, the DNS records it
needs, how to tell when it is working, and removing it.
Your own domain comes with the Team and Organisation plans. Each project can have one.
What changes, and what does not
At your domain the room is exactly the room: the same viewer links, the same "Are you …?" check, the same pages, files and tour. A viewer link you make once the domain is working is shown at your domain, and every link also keeps opening at the room's own address, so nothing you have already sent stops working.
The demo inside the room stays where it always is, on
getroomi.app. A builder's code never runs on your domain, and the
room's sign-in cookie at your domain belongs to that one hostname alone.
Adding a domain
Use a subdomain, such as pitch. or rooms. in front of your own domain. A
domain with nothing in front of it (northwind.com on its own) cannot point at
the room, because DNS does not allow the record it needs there.
- Open the project, then its Settings tab.
- Under Your own domain, enter the hostname and choose Add domain…. You are shown what will happen first, and nothing is set up until you choose Add the domain.
- The domain is then Waiting for DNS, with three DNS records to create.
From Claude, add_domain does the same, rehearsing first
(MCP tools).
The DNS records
Create these at whoever runs your domain's DNS. The app shows each one's exact name and value; copy them from there.
| Type | Name | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
CNAME |
your hostname | Sends your visitors to the room. Its value is domains.getroomi.app. |
TXT |
_cf-custom-hostname. and your hostname |
Proves the hostname is yours before any visitor is sent. |
TXT |
_acme-challenge. and your hostname |
Lets the certificate for your hostname be issued, so the room is served over HTTPS. |
Records can take a few minutes to be seen, sometimes longer. Once you have created all three, choose Check again in the project's Settings. When the hostname is verified and its certificate is issued, the domain is Active and the room answers there.
Keep the CNAME for as long as the room is at your domain: it is what sends
your visitors. When the certificate is renewed, the app may show a new value
for the _acme-challenge record; update it and check again.
When it is not working
- Waiting for DNS: the records are not seen yet. Check that each name and value is exactly as shown, wait a few minutes, and check again.
- Not working: the domain could not be verified, or its certificate could not be issued, and the app shows why. Fix the records and check again, or remove the domain and add it once more.
- Already a room's domain: another room has that hostname. If it is yours, remove it from that room first.
A plan that no longer includes your own domain stops the room answering there at once. The domain is kept, and answers again if the workspace moves back to a plan that has it.
Removing a domain
In the project's Settings, choose Remove…. You are shown what will
happen first, and nothing changes until you choose Remove the domain. Once
it is removed the room stops answering at that hostname at once, every link
keeps working at the room's own address, and you can delete the DNS records.
From Claude, remove_domain does the same. On a plan that no longer includes
your own domain, the domain is still shown with Remove… beside it.
Every change to a project's domain, by whom and when, is in its activity's room history.
